Character Name: AJ Tremaine
Canon: OC
Canon Point Right before he's reunited with Rose halfway through his senior year
Personality: He's charismatic and knows it. He likes to smile and doesn't take things too seriously. He's also pretty upbeat and easygoing and is good at letting things roll off his shoulders. Unless it involves his brother, not much fazes him. Even when he fails at sweeping a girl off her feet, he laughs it off and moves on. He doesn't hold grudges. He either meshes with someone or he doesn't.
He has a lot of pain and hides it. He's very private about his feelings and his family. He avoids or redirects all conversations on the matter. No one knows the extent of what his brother has done. Nor the darkness that lingers in the deepest parts of him. There are times certain triggers get to him and he falls into a pit of despair.
His childhood fantasies were filled with dragons, knights on white horses, and himself, the princess, locked high in a tower. Dreams were his way of finding happiness.
He's kind, caring, and helpful. He knows what pain feels like and doesn't like others being in a position of discomfort. He tends to be subtle and never claims responsibility for it.
History: His mother died in childbirth, something his father never recovered from and his brother never forgave him for. AJ grew up thinking he had been the cause of her death. His brother worked carefully and skillfully to poison his mind and his perception of himself.
His saving graces were his grandmother and Rose. Without them, he might have given in completely.
Instead, he grew up with a quiet, disconnected childhood. His nanny took care of him mostly, his father unable to look at the child that so resembled his wife in personality and appearance. His escapes from the sterile environment were visits from his grandmother, summers spent with Rose in the forest, and a special communication device.
When it came time to go away to school, he chose to go to the same one as Rose, even though it was more difficult to get in and to in the courses. Of course, he had problems with the strict regime. He slacked in his studies. But, hefty payments from his father kept him in school. Until Ethan convinced their father to transfer him.
AJ spent the next two and a half years completely ignoring school, filling his time with alcohol, drugs, and his new found sexuality. AJ continually asked to be allowed to move back. His father refused. AJ continued to act out, trying to prove that being so far from home was doing nothing to help. And promised to do better if allowed to return.
His father relented. He kept his return home a secret to surprise his best friend. And instead finds himself here.
Sin: Acedia- Instead of putting forth any actual effort into school, work, or actual friendships that go beyond the surface. He instead fills it with drinking, drugs, sex, and charming women. And in time, he succumbs completely.
Virtue: Faith- Even when he's given up on himself, he believes in the best in others. He doesn't see that his brother is truly as bad as he is. He believes his brother does care and can see what AJ himself cannot. He believes in doing good, taking the good stance. Even if he thinks himself incapable of doing so.
